Learning Objectives and Introduction
2.1: The course-level learning objectives describe outcomes that are measurable – Vantage lists all learning objectives on the first page of the chapter and then introduces a LO for each section within the chapter.
2.2: The module/unit-level learning objectives describe outcomes that are measurable and consistent with the course-level objectives. - Vantage adds various assignment types (Knowledge Checks, Video activities, Data Activities, Reading activities, Self-Assessments, Critical Thinking Checks, and Quizzes) within each section to align with a particular LO to measure LO outcomes.
2.3: Learning objectives are clearly stated, are learner-centered, and are prominently located in the course. – Vantage LO are learner-centered and can be prominently located in an LMS course by either uploading an LMS course cartridge to the LMS course or Creating a LO folder/page within the LMS by copying and pasting the LO from the first page of the chapter in Vantage.
2.4: The relationship between learning objectives, learning activities, and assessments is made clear. - All Vantage assignments are formative low-stakes concept reinforcers built on each LO in each section and end with a summative end-of-chapter Quiz that incorporates all of the chapter LOs. Every question in Vantage is tied to a LO, Bloom’s taxonomy, and a difficulty level. The LOs are translated into the Learning Objective Performance report that monitors the students' understanding of each LO within Vantage.
2.5: The learning objectives are suited to and reflect the level of the course. – If using the Vantage LO to build the course around.
Assessment and Objectives (Competencies)
3.1: The assessments measure the achievement of the stated learning objectives. – Beginning with the Vantage Knowledge Checks that are formative low-stakes concept reinforcers that build student confidence. Students get instant remediation for the particular LO and do not have to wait until the end of the chapter quiz to realize if they did not understand something. This increases the likelihood of students actually reading the text, improving engagement of course topics, LO. Prepares students to perform to the best of their abilities on the weekly activities and assessments and confirms their content knowledge on course topics LO.
3.4: The course includes multiple types of assessments that are sequenced and suited to the level of the course. – All Vantage titles include Knowledge Checks, Video Activities, Critical Thinking Checks, and end-of-chapter Quizzes. Discipline-specific titles will also include Reading Activities, Self- Assessments, and Data Activities. Most Sociology, Criminal Justice and Political Science titles include Data Activities. Most Business and Psychology titles include Self-Assessments. Reading activities are found in most Sociology, Criminal Justice, Business and Psychology titles.
3.5: The types and timing of assessments provide learners with multiple opportunities to track their learning progress with timely feedback. - All Vantage readings and resource assignment types are integrated within the chapter reading to reinforce a specific LO.
Instructional Materials
4.1: The instructional materials contribute to the achievement of the stated learning objectives. – Vantage accomplishes this when chapter readings and activities are assigned weekly to the students throughout the semester.
4.2: The relationship between the use of instructional materials in the course and completion of learning activities and assessments is clearly explained. - By adding due dates in Vantage, students can easily keep track of required assignments, whether for a grade or completion. The due dates are clearly displayed under each assignment type in the right-hand Activities navigation bar, as well as on the activity itself within the chapter. This can also be accomplished by adding Vantage links to the LMS course modules/folders.
4.3: The course models the academic integrity expected of learners by providing both source references and permissions for use of instructional materials. – Permission is automatically granted when an instructor adopts a Vantage title and integrates it within the LMS via the Sage Vantage LTI 1.3 tool. The student purchases a subscription.
4.4: The instructional materials represent up-to-date theory and practice in the discipline. – Sage Publications, the publisher of Vantage, strives to ensure that our authors’ instructional materials reflect current theories and practices within their respective disciplines. As experts in their field, authors are encouraged to incorporate recent findings and developments in their work, leading to updated editions of Vantage titles.
4.5: A variety of instructional materials is used in the course. – Vantage is just a tool that an instructor can use to start the cycle of readings, activities, and assessments throughout the semester to fulfill the QM standard.
