How do I review and grade short answer questions?

Overview

Short answer questions are present in Critical Thinking Checks, Video Activities, Data Activities, and Reading Activities. If you assign them in your course and do not set them for auto credit upon completion, you will need to review and assign credit for students when they complete their attempts. You must do this for the student to receive a full grade.

Until you grade a short answer question, students will see it marked as “grade pending instructor review.”

The message to students will read, "Your current score does not include short answer questions..."

Step-by-step guide

1.  Go to the Gradebook in your Vantage course dashboard.

2.  Scroll to any Activity with a small flag next to the assignment name (in the image below, Video Activity 1.2) and select the flag icon.

3. In the new window, choose Expand All to view the student’s short answer

The Expand All button is beneath the question.

4. Choose Give Credit or No Credit for the student response. If  you wish, make a note about your reasoning, and then choose whether to make it visible to the student.

Use the radial buttons to give credit and display credit to the student.

5. Repeat for each question.

6. Select Save All.

Grades will flow to the LMS if you grade synced and when you complete grading for the whole assignment.
